Efficient new design simplifies pig vaccination
The new Twistpak vaccine containers, developed by Boehringer Ingelheim, allows for the mixing of two vaccines against frequently occurring pig diseases.
Twistpak allows for the mixing of the vaccines, Ingelvac CircoFLEX against Porcine Circovirus type 2 (PCV2), which works by reducing clinical symptoms associated with PCV2-related diseases, and Ingelvac MycoFLEX for the prevention of mycoplasma (common lung disease), caused by the bacteria, mycoplasma hyopneumoniae. Both diseases are widespread in global pig production.
Convenient, safe and hygienic method
The method is convenient, safe and hygienic and the process takes no more than just a couple of seconds, which eases the workload of pig producers.
The technology incorporates a hygienic interlock at the bottom of each bottle to connect two bottles with a twist. The process creates one single mixing chamber, which fits in all standard vaccination devices. No transfer needle is therefore required as before. If the vaccines need to be used separately, this is also possible.
The new design is not only convenient and fast, it is made from recyclable plastic. It received the Red Dot Award in the Product Design category in 2021.
