Development programme for sustainable meat
Danish Crown’s development programme, Climate Track, focuses on parameters such as the climate, social responsibility, animal welfare and biodiversity.
What is the Climate Track programme?
Danish Crown has set CO2e reduction targets, verified Science-Based Targets, for the company’s own operations (Scope 1 and 2) and for the company’s value chains (Scope 3). 90% of CO2e emissions derive from farmers who supply Danish Crown in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland with animals for slaughter.
Climate Track is thus an engagement programme targeted at farmers who supply Danish Crown with livestock for slaughter. Its main aim is a reduction in climate impact from farm to table, with emphasis on increased social responsibility, animal welfare and biodiversity.
An ambitious programme with ambitious goals
The programme supports both Danish Crown and its farmers in achieving the goal of climate neutrality (net zero) by 2050. The means will be through 100% commitment to the programme from cooperative owners and suppliers of slaughter animals by 2025 in Denmark, Sweden, Germany and Poland. Currently, 100% of Danish Crown’s Danish pigs are linked to the Climate Track programme compared to 85% of Swedish finishers and 40% in Germany, which is still in the start-up phase.
Pig and cattle producers who are aligned with the programme systematically collect and register data and information about their farms, with a focus on the following sustainability parameters:
Climate
- Production efficiency
- Feed composition
- Production of feed crops
- Livestock housing systems and technologies
- Slurry handling and biogas
Social responsibility
- Workplace assessments
- Employment contracts
Animal welfare
- Disease and mortality
- Use of antibiotics
Biodiversity
- Proportion of nature area
- Type of nature area
