The research project, Transform, which brings together Denmark’s leading researchers and advisers, has received DKK 37.7 million from the Novo Nordisk Foundation and the 15 June Foundation. The project aims at supporting local actors in Denmark in achieving the land use changes agreed under the Green Tripartite Agreement.
The goals in the Danish green transformation strategy require the involvement of many factors. A cross-disciplinary approach is therefore a cornerstone of the project, which brings together advisers, municipalities and local actors from across the country with researchers from several Danish universities.
The project is led by a broad team of researchers and advisers in the environment, agriculture, biodiversity and land use from Copenhagen University, Aarhus University and Seges Innovation. A number of other universities, authorities and business partners will also participate.
As the aims of the Tripartite Agreement for a greener Denmark have to be implemented across Denmark, local actors carry particular responsibility for their implementation.
The project, therefore, has strong local focus. So-called Living Labs will enable the many aspects of the project to be addressed locally and in close collaboration with local actors.
The DKK 37 million grant is part of the Novo Nordisk Foundations DKK 10 billion to support projects under the framework of the Green Tripartite Agreement. The Transform project’s official launch will take place on 23 April 2025.
Green Tripartite work continues
The Green Tripartite agreement will reduce the carbon footprint, improve the environment and create more space for nature. The agreement will also ensure that Danish agriculture remains strong and competitive and that food can continue to be produced on healthy soil.
Earlier this year, 23 local tripartite groups were established whose task is to prepare local conversion plans. They have been given the tools to identify where conversion of agricultural land will have the greatest impact on nitrogen emissions.
