Pig manure creates green/sustainable gas
Lemvig municipality in central Denmark has the potential to become self-sufficient in green gas.
Lemvig municipality in central Denmark has the potential to become self-sufficient in green gas. The municipality’s biogas plant, built by Lemvig Biogas, produces biogas from livestock manure and has high ambitions in terms of sustainable development. The municipality even has its own climate action plan known as DK2020.
The action plan reflects the municipality’s goal to reduce CO2 emissions by 45 per cent before 2030. To meet this goal, the start-up company, Lemvig Green Development, has embarked on the construction of a new biogas plant. The new plant will produce biogas from the pig slurry that is not already being used by Lemvig Biogas’ production. The strategy highlights how Lemvig Green Developments prioritises the climate and sustainable development: its aim is not to take work away from Lemvig Biogas, but to capitalise on the municipality’s remaining potential, i.e. pig slurry. Lemvig Green Development has high hopes for the project, has invested a considerable sum in the venture and is calling on more farmers to sign up to the project for the long term.
The produced biogas is primarily intended to supply the local community and industrial companies. The ultimate aim is to create circular energy locally.
Lemvig is a great example of municipalities of the future.
