Climate action rather than red tape
The Danish Agriculture & Food Council takes action when it comes to the climate.
When the new Danish government presented its climate programme at the end of 2022, it was with trust in the business community’s high green transition ambitions. At the Danish Agriculture & Food Council, we realise that with trust comes responsibility – which is why it is important that instead of focusing on bureaucracy, we start taking action, especially if the Danish agricultural and food industry is serious about achieving its green transition objectives.
Sensible green solutions
Danish companies and co-operative enterprises present new green initiatives and ideas every day. Frequently, however, complicated rules hinder their implementation. The Danish Agriculture & Food Council wants to be part of the solution by ensuring, for example, that good ideas are not allowed to collect dust because of lengthy product approvals. The government programme contains good examples of attractive climate initiatives that could be part of the creation of even more sustainable agriculture, one being biochar. Pyrolysis is employed to produced biochar, which is converted from agricultural waste, to bind CO2 and thus be turned into an efficient aviation fuel. Besides being an attractive climate initiative, which can limit CO2e emissions, the method is also financially beneficial for farmers. It is initiatives like this where the Danish Agriculture & Food Council can play a part in removing some of the obstacles imposed by rules and product approvals.
Constructive engagement paves the way for climate targets
The Danish Agriculture & Food Council is well aware that the Danish government prioritises the actual implementation of climate tools – today rather than tomorrow – so that the climate goals for 2030 and beyond can be achieved. DAFC is ready to engage constructively with the new government. Agriculture and the food cluster’s climate vision, which will prepare the groundwork for the green transition and the achievement of the agricultural agreement’s development targets, will be presented at the start of the new year.
