Higher Danish pig slaughterings and weaner exports in 2011

Danish pig slaughterings recovered in 2011 but weaner exports reached 8m head.

Pig slaughterings in Denmark recovered to 20.9m head, from 20.2m head during 2010.

Exports of weaners continued to increase, reaching 8m head in 2011, with Germany remaining the principal outlet, although exports to Poland also increased significantly during the year. However, exports of finished pigs fell back to around 400,000 head, just half the level of 2010. Profitability of weaner production is forecast to improve significantly during 2012.
