Danish pig meat exports top 2m tonnes in 2011

Danish exports reached 2 million tones in 2011, mainly due to rising sales to key Third Country markets.

Exports of pig meat from Denmark reached 2m tonnes in 2011. The main factor behind this growth was strong export demand in the global marketplace – in particular, exports to China (and Hong Kong) rose from 172,000 to 213,000 tonnes, with record tonnages being shipped in the final months of 2011.

Within the EU, Germany remained the largest export market for Danish pig meat, including a significant number of ‘live’ exports and exports to Poland also rose sharply.Tonnages shipped to the UK market remained stable at 281,000 tonnes.
