A right royal party

Pig meat products enjoyed excellent sales as the nation celebrated the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

Pig meat products such as pork pies and sausage rolls enjoyed a bonanza as the nation partied to celebrate the Queen’s Diamond Jubilee.

To celebrate the occasion, market research company, Mintel, published a survey highlighting the major changes in our national diet over the last 40 years, including the decline in cooked breakfasts with bacon and eggs – needless to say, the Sun challenged the Mintel view with the headline ‘English fry up will never be toast’.

While there is no doubting that cooked breakfasts have declined in frequency of servings – now more of a weekend treat than a weekday staple – bacon as a sandwich ingredient remains as popular as ever.

This years winner of the Hovis 'Ultimate British Sandwich' was the “Blue Scotsman” containing Brodick Blue cheese and Ayrshire dry cured bacon.
